Shakespeare Friday -- "Henry V"

Since we studied the Hundred Year's War, Henry V, England & France this week, it seemed appropriate to choose Henry V as our play for our 'Shakespeare Friday'.  We watched segments of Kenneth Branagh's Henry V on youtube.  The dynamic between Henry & Catherine is wonderful -- and, in my opinion, one of the greatest love-scenes in literature & movie history.
Our favorite scene from the battlefield is the St. Crispin's Day speech and the singing of Non Nobis Domine.  Take a moment and watch this clip:  Henry V.  This song never disappoints.  It bring tears to my eyes whenever I watch it.

We watched the Laurence Olivier version of Henry V in it's entirety from Netflix on our Wii.  It's an old version from 1944, but it follows Shakespeare's script very closely.  The girls enjoyed it.

Here is Abi's copy work from Henry's St. Crispin's Day Speech:

Abi also copied a few lines between Henry & Cathy.
Some scripts online show Cathy spelled with a 'K'.  This was my source for Abi's copy work, with Katherine with a 'K'. Regardless of the spelling, we love this part.  So romantic!
Never miss an opportunity for a geography lesson.

Last week we studied Taming Of The Shrew...

Week 3 concluded with our first "Shakespeare Friday" and a family viewing of The Taming Of The Shrew starring Elizabeth Taylor.  Watching Netflix movies on the iPad in our school room is so convenient.  The girls loved the movie and all of Kate's stubborn antics.  We read a few lines of the play in our poetry book entitled Music Of The Hemispheres. The chapter on 'alliteration' referred to Shakespeare's use of alliteration in Taming Of The Shrew.

Here is Abi's impression of Kate's behavior.
